Klinetob Violin Studio 2026-27

Lessons

· Lessons are taught weekly, September through June.

· Lesson length is as follows:

- 30 minutes (for 3 and 4 year-olds + pre-Twinkle students)

- 45 minutes (Book 1-4)

- 60 minutes (optional for students Book 4+, required for Book 5 if student also participates in youth/school/PMEA orchestra, required for all Book 6+ students.)

· Summer lessons are highly encouraged as to not lose progress during this time.

· Please arrive at least 5 minutes early to unpack and tune.

· Please keep nails very short! You may want to add nail clippers to your bag.

· I suggest designating a “violin bag” for music, a notebook, pens/pencils, nail clippers, water bottle, shoulder rest, etc.

· Please keep sick children at home. If your child is on the mend, but possibly still contagious, a virtual lesson is a good option.

· You can pay at each lesson or prepay for multiple lessons. I accept Venmo, cash, or check.

Practice Expectation/Attendance

· Students are expected to practice at least 5 days per week for approximately the same length of their lesson. I give very clear directions on what to practice each week. Parents can write these down or I can write them down for you. Students age 12 and older will learn to take their own notes.

· We all have bad days, illness, or busy weeks where we can’t get as much done as we’d like. That’s understandable and part of life. However, if 2-3 months go by and very little/no progress has been made, practice is not happening and it will be time to end lessons.

· It’s better to reschedule than cancel a lesson, although I realize this can sometimes be unavoidable. Keep in mind that frequently missed lessons mean the time we have together will be spent in review. If lessons are regularly cancelled, it will be time to end lessons.

· If you need to cancel, please notify me by the end of the day before your lesson. If you cancel the day of (for reasons other than illness), you will be charged for that lesson.

Sibling/Studio Etiquette

· Please, no shoes on the furniture and no food in the studio.

· Siblings are welcome to attend lessons. If they become distracting, they will need to wait in their car or outside with a parent/adult.

· Please ask before posting pictures of me or videos of my teaching on social media.

Recitals

· I hold two formal recitals per year. All students must attend a rehearsal with the pianist (usually the day before). There is a recital fee. These recitals are scheduled several months in advance and detailed information is sent out ahead of time.

Instrument Rental/Care

· Most beginner/intermediate students rent their violins. When your student reaches a more advanced level, or shows a high level of commitment, it may be time to purchase. I can help you with this process as it can be overwhelming. Many shops offer a percentage of rental fees towards purchase. That may determine where you’d like to rent. · Violins are sensitive to temperature/humidity fluctuation. They should not be left in a hot car or in freezing temperatures. Wash hands before touching your violin. Do not lotion your hands before practice and do not get hand sanitizer near your instrument. Bows should always be loosened after playing. If a wood bow remains tightened, it may be ruined. Please wipe excess rosin off the strings/violin after practice.
